GREETINGS!!!!

Can you believe that this is our “Summer Into Fall” Issue?

Where has the summer gone?

Our first item in the Newsletter is a plea for help!  Our greatest desire is to become current with our acquisitioning and Don spells it out for us.

YOU ARE NEEDED!     Wednesday, Sept. 18th at 7:00 P.M.

Your help is needed to care and preserve our clothing collection.  Dirt, temperature, and improper care have placed their toll on our textile collection.  A work night is planned for Sept. 18th to take of it.  You would be asked to number, describe the item then fold and box it.  It is not difficult work, but needs to be done carefully.  We would like as many as possible to come.  We will meet at the Lucy Bensley  Library on North Buffalo Street at 7:00 P.M.  Men would be greatly appreciated to catalog tools in the Carriage House.  They should also meet at the Bensley Library at 7:00 P.M.  Please consider this as your contribution to a very BIG project  (It should be fun too !!)

GENEALOGY

This has been “big business” for us this year and summer was no exception.  Charlie has been ill for several months now, so Lee and Margaret have been really busy.  With the help of Mary Riley we’re surviving.  We’ve helped people from British Columbia, Illinois, Florida and Vermont.  Just to mention a few.  E-mail referrals are up too.  Many of our new friends have made generous donations to our Society for which we Thank them, one and all.

EXHIBITS

Gertrude and Grace have outdone themselves with their Library exhibits and now will be doing a case at the T own Hall periodically.  They put lots of time and effort into these exhibits and the results show it.  Take time to see them, especially the Teddy Bear exhibit at the Hulbert Library.

ERIE COUNTY FAIR

Once again with lots of help from Dave and Crew and under the guidance of Grace we got recognition at the Erie County Fair at Hamburg.  Many Thanks to all that helped and also to those that assisted at the Fair.

LOOK AT US !

Stop by and admire the new chairs and tables at the Library.  Our Thanks to the Town Board who always supports us and also those that share the Lucy Bensley Library, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary, Sage and our Members.

VISITORS
In June we were visited by Ann Marie Linnaberry from WNYHA and two of the interns from the Amherst Museum. Ann Marie came to assess our Museum and the work we had done and to offer
suggestions as to what else should be done. The written critique will be arriving shortly but we "passed" with flying colors. Her most important suggestion was that we add room darkening shades to all our rooms, to protect from fading of our artifacts. We served lunch on the porch, enjoyed the beauty of our yard and baked in the praise of our Museum.

DAIRY FESTIVAL

Everyone probably saw our team and wagon in the Dairy Festival Parade. Our Thanks to Gertrude for coordinating it all and to John W. Bentley of Collins for providing the transportation. Oh, and by the way did you see Harry and his very own WWII ambulance? Who but Harry would have his own ambulance????

ON THE ROAD

We spent an enjoyable evening visiting the home of the Eden Historical Society. The tour of the Asa Warren House was nice and the very interesting part was seeing the involvement of the underground railroad with this house. The lemonade and strawberry shortcake were pretty special too.

MORE VISITORS

The visit of 127 4th Graders and their Teachers moved us to house clean the Carriage House and Museum. Our "Pop Warner Kids" dog tags were a hit and it was a pleasure to entertain such well behaved and interested children. They certainly are well worth the work to preserve our heritage for.

GREG KINAL

July found Greg Kinal back with us speaking on "Sex and the 'Presidents". One never nods off during Greg's programs!

VICTORIAN TEA

Our Victorian Tea honoring All Veterans in July was held on a splendid Sunday and we Thank the Veterans for coming and for also serving their Country so well.

HISTORICAL MAIN STREET

Several of us attended the dedication of Historic Main Street on July 1st. It was rewarding to see all the work we had put into the Historic Review of Springville finally coming up for recognition and putting more of Springville on the State and Federal Historic Register.

SEPTEMBER 28, 2002

We have been invited to the dedication of a permanent Memorial for the service and sacrifice of the Men of the 155th N.Y. State Volunteers at the Buffalo Naval Park at 2:00 P.M. For more information call 592-0094 or 592-2097.

BUDGET TIME

It's Budget Time again and what could be a better time to thank Supervisor Mark Steffan and his Board for all their support. We are so very fortunate to have a Supervisor and Board that supports our work and are interested in the history of the Town. We are looking forward to new projects and improving the assets we have.
