Fall 2006
Goodbye Fall - - Hello Winter!
We hope the predictions for a light winter are correct!
There are so many things to cover since our last Newsletter that some items are going to be "one liners".
ANNEX
The good news is that the fellows loaded all our salvage lumber from Pops (the old knife factory) onto a trailer loaned to us by Nason's Delivery and it's now at the location of the "to be" Country Store. We thank the owners of Pop's for their generosity and all that helped on such short notice.
Corey and Ronnie Klahn are in charge of redoing the roof on the Store and at the same time adding an upper story. It's a big undertaking and we will have to tighten our belts and spend our budget very cautiously.
LIBRARY NEWS
Lee has officially retired from the Library and we thank her for all her help in getting Lucy Bensley Library up and running. Of course, she is still our Historical Society secretary and we really appreciate that.
"Green Thumb" and Experience Works" have been replaced by "Senior Services". We are very lucky to have been able to get our own Mary Riley and Linda Hamilton as Lee's replacements. Mary has been our 4th Sunday girl for several years and has real know how for genealogy. Linda is a newcomer to Springville but is a enthusiastic learner. There is only one problem; neither of the girls can work longer than one year under the new system.
NEW TRUSTEE
We welcome Jeanne Fornes as a new trustee for the Historical Society. We've already used her talents may times. Grace with Jeanne's help and many others did secure 3rd prize at the Fair this Fall! Grace is another of our blessings - she also oversees the Sunday schedule of the Museum and the displays at the Hulbert Library and the Town Hall.
At this time we also want to thank Wesley Chandler, our outgoing trustee, who felt that he was no' longer able to serve. Wes served long and hard and was always good for a laugh to lighten any situation. He will certainly be missed.
OUR BEST SALESLADY
Our thanks also go out again to Sue Putney Skura of HomeWare. She is the very best saleslady for our ‘Concord Book’.
WARM THE CHILDREN
Perhaps you saw our Memorial in "Warm the Children" for Bob Shea. He was a loyal member of the Society and a booster for Springville. It's hard to believe he's been gone almost 2 years. We also had to say 'Good Bye' to another member this Fall: Dale Manchester, who will also be missed.
GREAT RACE
The "Great Race" team is quietly working on their big project for 2008. Watch for details.
GOOD LUCK
Don and Lee have been getting in some workdays accessioning at the Museum. It all helps.
ICAHBOD
Julie VanCamp has completed her book "Icahbod" and it will soon be on the way to the publishers.
ANOTHER THANK YOU
At this time we also want to thank Tim Frank for all his legal assistance!
OCTOBER MEETING
In October Greg Kinal spoke to us about World War I & II. As usual his program was wonderful and as a special treat, he brought along his Mother. We were happy so many of our Ashford Historical Society friends also came.
COOKIE SALE
Don't forget our annual and famous Cookie Sale on Dec. 2nd at 9:00 am. With all our ongoing projects, every little bit helps. If you aren't a Baker but would like to help, donations are cheerfully accepted.
DATES AHEAD
Jan. 10,2007 Business Meeting and Election of Officers.
A Merry Christmas and a Wonderful & Happy New Year
to all our Members and Friends !!
