Happy Fall - - - Happy Halloween!
Fall 2004
If you haven't been around the Museum or the Library lately, you probably have been wondering when your Fall Newsletter was going to arrive. This has been the busiest Summer ever!
MUSEUM The big news at the Museum is that our "new" corn crib and shed are in place. --Thanks to our new member George Donhauser. It rained and it rained and then it rained some more and then finally George was able to get the buildings to the Museum, all the way from out on Rt 391. No one but George would have tackled that job 'singlehanded'. Again George THANK YOU!.
Under the supervision of Gertrude Forde and her loyal trustees, Dave Batterson, Bob Whitehead, Wes Chandler, Tom Hawkins and with the help of Joe Krzemien and "Tiny" Wright, a loyal volunteer, work is progressing to get the building next to the Creek dismantled and the grounds ready. Mike Hannon is waiting the go-ahead from the D.E.C. and then things will come together - hopefully before Winter. Shirley Perkins has already donated artifacts for our "County Store" in the other building.
"Butch" and Carol Hill from Hill's Christmas Tree Farm gave us a wonderful deal on trees, that were placed on the upper property line. People like them that help the Community are a joy to do business with.
BOOKS - And while we're talking about good Friends, we want to thank all those that have been selling our "Concord" books. Everyone has been doing a great job, But Sue Putney Skura from the Springville Homewear is our top' saleslady'. Thank you Sue!.
Still about our books - don't forget to pick up some for Christmas gifts. Who would have ever guessed they would sell so well. The Company requires us to sell a certain number before they will publish another book, so we're still collecting more pictures, just in case.

NTERVIEWS - Tom Geelan & Margaret Mayerat went to visit Evalyn Russell when her son Tom was in town and interviewed her for our growing collection. It was a little hard to interview there at the Nursing Home but Tom was able to cope with the situation. Evalyn, our oldest member, will be 99 years young on Nov. 7th. Please remember her with a card. Her address is:Evalyn Russell

SPEAKERS - Jerry Puma, a Larkin Collector, gave a wonderful presentation in July and showed many items of his collection. He was so interesting that several of us attended the Larkin Festival. There we learned that the Katzman's Store in Springville had the Larkin Company make a special plate for them. Has anyone got this plate?
Mark Howes found a 1906-1907 Lyceum program for the Library showing this full page ad.

October 13th saw Lucy's Library filled to capacity to hear Greg Kinal present his new program "Famous Women". We had guests from the Ashford Historical Society, Sardinia and Gowanda-Perrysburg Societies. Greg's program made us think, remember and laugh as usual.
VICTORIAN TEA - Our annual Victorian Tea, held on a beautiful Sunday in July was a great success. Medora Ball, along with the 'coverlet' she donated was the "belle" of the day. This coverlet was done by raising the sheep, spinning their wool, designing and weaving it. What a treasure to receive.
PIE BAKING CONTEST - Grace Gentner and Gertrude Forde brainstormed a pie baking contest for "Pop Warner" Homecoming Weekend. It was held in Dave Batterson's renovated Union Block building. Our own Ruth Maul won first prize. Congratulations to Ruth and all that participated. Our good Friend and member Bill Potter raffled off those tasty pies. Thanks also to our Judges! Next year should be ever bigger and better.
WAR POSTERS - Surely all saw Paul Chapman's wonderful article in the Oct. 14th Journal about our World War Posters. Please see your personal invitation below and plan to attend. We thank Paul for all he does for our Society.

These valuable posters originated during the war years.
They were saved by our own Lucy Bensley, Librarian
