A TRIBUTE TO ICAHBOD FOSTER
On September 10th at 2:00 pm we will be paying tribute to Icahbod Foster, one of the very earliest settlers of Concord and a relative of Christopher Stone.
Icahbod, aged 71, arrived November 28th, 1811 with his wife Susannah, aged 67 and his daughter Susanna, aged 11. He made the trip from Vermont and walked most of the nearly 600 miles along side their wagon. They completed the trip in 5 weeks.
His great, great, great granddaughter Julie Foster VanCamp from Lopez Island, Washington will be with us to give Icahbod a final tribute and a resting place all with due respect.
Some of the families now living on Lot 51, Icahbod's original property, will be there to share with us.
Please plan on attending. It will be a wonderful sharing of local history that we can all enjoy. Refreshments will be served on the site. Don't miss being part of it!
HURRAH!!
The work at Spring Creek is almost completed; thanks to the Trustees' prudent attention. The DEC gave us our final 'go ahead' and with the hard work of our Town Highway Department we can say the end is in sight. A round of applause to all those that saw this through. Hopefully, we can get something done on the building before winter.
Our grounds have never looked better and with a little luck we may be able to get some more painting done before winter.
GOOD FOR GRACE
Our display at the Fair was enjoyed by many. Thanks to Grace's yearly diligent work. We got theme and honorary ribbons. What would we do without Grace and Dave!
CLASS OF '55
We received a wonderful 'Thank you' note and a check from the Class of '55, who toured our Museum on August 6th. They had fun and so did we.
ELLICOTTVILLE HISTORICAL GROUP
Mary Elizabeth Dunbar and Cathy Lacey from Ellicottville visited us last week to discuss publishing a book like our "Concord" book. They are considering doing one. P.S. We’re not loaning our Lee, no matter how many times they ask.
OLD EDITIONS BOOK STORE
In early summer we visited the Old Editions Book Store on Huron Street in Buffalo_ owned by Ron Cozzi. What a great place to spend a few hours or a whole day and even have your lunch there. Ron turned an old warehouse into a three floor real treasure for book lovers.
DAIRY FESTIVAL
The Dairy Festival has come and gone but thanks to the Lutheran Church that gave bag lunches on our lawn, we had more visitors than we ever anticipated.
We also had the Civil War Encampment that had great displays and interesting stories. A "thank you" to them also.
4th GRADERS
We always look forward to entertaining the 4th Graders in June. Hats off to their parents and teachers, what well mannered and attentive kids!
VICTORIAN TEA
Our Victorian Tea had a wonderful day for the tea on the front lawn and the flowers were at their finest.
Our "thanks" to the Barnyard Buckaroos who always do a great job with their music.
G.I.’S ANNIVERSARY
Hope you took part in the events or saw the displays at the school itself or our display at the Lucy Bensley Center, celebrating G.I.’s 175th anniversary.
THE BEUHLMANS
In June we had the wonderful program about "The Rock Environmental Center", in Delevan, which is now closed to regular visiting. The program was presented by Peg and Mark Beuhlman. And perhaps, the best part for us, was when they talked about Mark's Dad, Clint Buehlman. Sixty years ago or somewhere about then, who didn't listen to Clint? He got us up, he gave us the weather, the school closings and the latest "news". Who could forget him? It was a great evening.
CATTARAUGUS GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
The Society visited us at both the Museum and the Library. They went away appreciating all our had work and some are coming back to do research!
