Mid-Winter February 2006
Happy Valentines Day !!
(The day everyone is a Sweetheart!)
HOLIDAYS
The holidays are over and we're hoping you all got a special treat or two. Our
Museum was looking most festive inside and out. Special thanks to the Whiteheads
for keeping it bright!
Our special thanks go to our respective Santas, Connie and Jack Hume of Schenectady and Jim Smith of North Collins. It is truly great that these people think enough of the Society to send us a Christmas gift. We promise they will be put to good use.
CURRENT UPDATE
At our January meeting we discussed what we had accomplished in 2005 and thanks
to everyone we did many things. But, on the other had, we've got lots "on our
plate" for the coming year. The new calendar is not complete but will give you a
mini preview of some things to come.
INTERVIEWS
With Tom Geelan doing all the technical work we have set our goal of 4
interviews a month about the citizens and life in Concord. We have a list of
prospective people. We have also talked about opening it up to individuals in
out town that would like to be
HELPERS
We are happy to have Sherry Bernard and Karl Leonard join our group. They have
been doing research at our Library for some time and are now going to be opening
the Library on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 pm. The Library will be
open during the week Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 11 and 1 to 3 and
Lee will be there to assist if necessary. Mary Riley will be doing the 4th
Sunday of the month from 2 to 4 pm as usual. We appreciate all of these
volunteers.
The Museum will be closed until April except for special appointments.
MUSEUM
Grace Gentner and Gertrude Forde will be working with Joe Yaeger to get our
audible system up and running in the Museum. They hope to start the 1st of
February.
COUNTRY STORE
Gertrude Forde and the Trustees are firming up our plans for the 'Country Store'
in the old ice house. Bob Whitehead has already done research on old stores and
their facades. As soon as David Batterson gets home, definite plans will be made
and work scheduled. It will be so great to have another place to display many of
our artifacts.
COOKIE SALE
In spite of the weather and the price of gasoline, our December Cookie Sale was
a success. We decided that part of our profit should to "The Gem On The Hill",
that's always there for all of us. What better use could we have found! It made
baking all those cookies worthwhile.
VISITORSIn response to our invitation to Clubs and Organizations, we will be entertaining both the Women's Club and the West Valley Historical Society in March at the Museum.
DUES
FINALLY
Our next regular meeting is Wednesday, February 8, at 7:00 pm at the Lucy Bensley
