October 20, 2008: Springville, NY was the site of a special tribute to it's hometown hero George Schuster hosted by the Concord Historical Society .

Participants in the Longest Auto Race Centennial Tour, as they trekked from NYC Times Square to San Francisco, made a brief stop in Springville, NY to honor the winner of the 1908 NY to Paris Race. Western New York and Pennsylvania car enthusiasts were invited to be part of this grand tribute to George Schuster.

The day's events were:

1. Participants met at the corner of route 391 and Buffalo Road, north of the village of Springville for the drive to the Springville Elementary school.

2. They were present for presentation of a commemorative wreath at the Elementary School with students greeting the drivers (just as school children did 100 years ago).

3. The participants enjoyed a Car tour of Schuster sites - driving past his home on East Ave, the "Pop" Warner Museum and the new mural on Main Street.

There was be a "Photo/Refreshment Stop" at Fiddler's Green Gazebo, then past Schuster's 1920 Dodge Dealership Historic Marker and on to Maplewood Cemetery for the wreath laying ceremony with gun salute.

4. The car tour concludes at the Maplewood Cemetery for a Memorial Ceremony. This ceremony, at George Schuster's grave included a flag salute, remarks by Jeff Mahl, great-grandson of George Schuster, and wreath presentation.
